A novel synthesis method using N-vinylazoles produces unexpected compounds DINQ (R= Me) and DINI (R= H). Mocatalyst is crucial for DINQ formation from skatole and for accelerating the DINI cyclization. Select compounds exhibit potent cytotoxic eff ects against HCT-116 cells.
