New 1,4,8-triazaphenanthrene derivatives were assessed for neuroprotection in a rat culture system that models the death of dopamine neurons in Parkinson’s disease. The cover picture illustrates the rescuing effects of the hit compound 3-phenyl-1,4,8-triazaphenanthrene (PPQ) for these neurons, i.e., cells immunolabeled for tyrosine hydroxylase. In the same study, the neuroprotective potential of PPQ was further established using a mouse model of the disease.
